About HerpArts
HerpArts is the
creation of Allen and Anita Salzberg. That's
us, to the right. We are partners in life
and in our love of turtles. |

We've launched HerpArts as an outlet for our reptile
art, and to raise funds to help herps, via Allen's work
with HerpDigest (www.herpdigest.org). Proceeds from HerpArts'
sales go to benefit HerpDigest, the first free electronic
newsletter dedicated solely to reptile and amphibian
conservation and science.
Early in our marriage, we discovered a shared love of
photography. With so many turtles residing in our apartment,
it was only logical that we turn to them as photographic
subjects. This resulted in some hilarious situations.
For instance, how do you get a softshell turtle to "sit" for
its portrait? (Answer: you don't!)
We've since branched out to photographing lizards, snakes,
frogs and salamanders.
The result has been a dynamic photographic partnership.
We often use Photoshop to enhance and transform our work.
Our photos and photo-manipulated prints range from sharp
I.D. shots to impressionistic images.
Our photos have been published in The New York Times,
World Conservation Magazine, Animaland (the ASPCA children's
publication), New York Newsday and Outside magazine.
About the founders
Allen is known within the herpetological community for
his chelonian conservation work and for his role as
Publisher/Editor of HerpDigest.
Anita's book, Confessions of a Turtle Wife, the story
of her turtle-challenged marriage, is a hit with turtle
and reptile lovers alike. She has also written articles
for Reptiles magazine.
Separately and together, we've published articles in
Ranger Rick, Health, OMNI, and the Sunday section of
The New York Times Magazine.
We've also authored three books for the children’s
library market for Franklin Watts: Turtles, Flightless
Birds, and Predators!
Turtles is today's best-selling book on turtles for
kids, with more than 10,000 copies in print. Library
Book Review says it's "…a definite 'must have'
for any child's science/natural history library."
Confessions
of a Turtle Wife and Turtles are both available on HerpArts.com.
HerpArts.com is a subsidiary of Herpdigest.org, the only free, non-profit, weekly electronic e-zine to report on the most current and relevant reptile and amphibian, conservation and science news. (To sign up go to www.herpdigest.org ) Any profits from the sale of products on HerpArts goes to Herpdigest to help it continue its mission of getting the latest news as fast as possible to those who care for herps and are involved in insuring their future. Sometimes there will be special sales where the proceeds of certain products goes to a specific project or cause. If so, it will be clearly marked.
